睡不著

星期一晚, 因頭痛及瞌睡, 晚上八時便睡了, 一直至星期二早12時, 足足睡了16小時. 中途醒過, 一轉身又再睡著了. 起床後, 依然覺得不舒服(極可能因為我睡得太多 =o=), 沒胃口, 一碗麵也吃不完. 接著, 吃了兩粒牛黃解毒片, 吃完後, 才發覺那樽藥已過期, 但我沒將藥拋掉(?!), 反而是我媽見到藥過期, 把它掉了. 傍晚照常上班, 我應沒收錯錢吧. 回家後, 我覺得好了點, 依然不在最佳狀態.

現在是4am, 剛吃了四粒銀翹, 等一會應該去睡了... 我一點也不瞌睡(正常吧=o=).

為何打這篇東西? 無聊吧. 想做的事都做完了. 至於要做的事情, 再壓遲做吧.

尋找淺橙淨色床單

我一直想買張淺橙淨色床單和枕頭套, 但在美國找到的, 不是太深, 就是太耀眼(sharp), 一直找不到合心意的. 有天, 和朋友 J 聊天, 我托她在香港幫我找. 我的要求是淺橙色, 淨色, 400針以上, 港幣$500以下. 她說見過, 但不記得在那裏. 我滿心歡喜, 十分期待!!

今天 J 在 MSN 告訴我, 她記得在那裏見過我想要的床單. 她先叫我估, 估完永安, SOGO後, 她開估. 答案是她爸媽的郵房. 我真的是沒有想過這個答案, 所以那刻我笑了. 哈哈.

下大雪 + 車死火

由昨天下午2時起, 一直下雪下到今天,
我想已經下了超過十寸的雪.
下雪, 我已經覺得夠煩;
下雪和壞車一齊發生, 真是令人頭痛.

今天下午一時, 我需要上班.
早半小時, 已開始warm up架車,
我和我爸亦開始清理車上及車附近的雪.
好不容易, 我把車駕離迫車位.
接著, 我發現電池有些問題.
我關掉引擎, 再"他"車時已經"他"不到, 即是死火.
oh my god!!
我致電AAA(類似汽車修理公司) for a jump start.
修理車的時間很快, 約十五分鐘.
等的時間卻很久, 約1小時半.
幸好, 我能在家中等, 能看看電視電影, 所以等的時候不覺得十分悶.
修理員用一些儀表檢查過我的車, 說車子應該沒有問題了.
他建議我每數小時warm up一下車子, 加強電池的運作.

二小時前, 我照著他的建議去warm up駕車.
第一次start up車,非常順利,
warm up架車五分鐘後, 我關掉引擎, 再start up時,
又再一次死火.
what the hell!!!!!!!

下雪前, 我的車子是沒有問題的.
我想死火是和下雪有關.
希望下雪後, 我的車會回復正常.
其實, 兩星期後, 我和家人打算去買過另一架車
不過我們還未決定買新定舊車, 甚麼型號等等...

現在, 我在上班中
下班時, 我的同事會用「過江龍」(兩條電線)來幫我"他"車
我想應該ok了, 不用再等1小時, 等修理員來了. 但願如此..

according to 天文台, 明天會下多兩至三寸雪.
唉...唉...唉......

ps:明天我不打算駕車上班, 已找人接送我了.

X'mas decorations

One of the X'mas decorations I saw this year.

椰汁豆沙燒餅 + Cream Puffs (w/ recipe)

After finishing the final exam on Monday, of course, first of all, I was delighted because of the coming one-month winter break. (Don't be jealous...hehe) Last two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, I stayed at home all the time except going to work on Tuesday evening. I spent most time on baking. Here were two of the desserts I made.

The 燒餅 tasted pretty good although the appearance were soso. I'd difficulty to wrap in the red bean filling. The batter was a little bit dry so was easy to break when I wrapped in the filling. Next time, I'll try to add more water.

Although the puffs weren't successful, they were the best puffs I've ever made. (Sigh) I need to practice hard.

Traffic ticket

A month ago, I was caught by the police and got a traffic ticket because of passing a red traffic light which just turned from yellow. Actually, I didn't make any danger. (Don't worry me) Also, I didn't have a valid proof of car insurance in my car at that time. Today, I'd to go to court to see whether the record could be clear and showed the valid proof. According to RI laws, if a RI driver doesn't make any violation in the past three years, the violation record may be dismissed. For details, visit RI Traffic Tribunal.

The court I went today is similar to the one we saw in Law & Order in TV. There were many people. I was surprised because Rhode Island is only a small state and doesn't have many people... It was my turn after waiting for two hours. Because of my previous good driving statue, this time I didn't have to pay for the fine (US$85) but still had to pay US$35 for the court cost.

Greek Yogurt

上星期, 我在超市買了兩盒 Greek Yogurt, 草莓和蜜糖味. 特價後, 每杯是us$1.25. 價錢頗為貴, 一般乳酪的售價是每杯約us 50 cents... 今日, 我試了草苺味. 個面是乳酪 (味道一般), 底層是草莓粒及果醬 (味道較好). 我個人好甜, 個乳酪完全不甜, 可以說是沒有味道. 乳酪亦比較硬身, 不夠滑... 總括來說, 我比較喜歡普通乳酪.

這手信是來自我爸的朋友, 好像是馬來西亞華僑, 不太清楚

我覺得好味, 甜味適中, 個外層吃起來像千層酥 (大概如是, 我看來不太會形容)

但我不知道裏面的餡料是甚麼?! 看起來像焦糖

有人可以告訴我嗎?!

First Snow in Winter 08

Photos were taken at 9am something. Because of hurrying to work, I just took pictures informally. Please don't mind the so-so quality!! You can still see everywhere is snow. When I was off duty, at 6pm, most snow melted.

Hot Pot - Frozen Tofu

Recently, my family had hot pot almost every week. In my view, hot pot and the cold are perfect match!! Have you ever eaten frozen tofu in hot pot? I just discovered that it tastes better than fresh tofu in hot pot. It's simple to make frozen tofu. Put fresh tofu in the freezer until it gets really firm and its color changes from white to light yellow. Unfreeze the frozen tofu in warm water and cut it into pieces before eating hot pot.

想盡快畢業...

Thanksgiving

In the morning, I baked a 8-inch Mango Chiffon Cake and Mango Chiffon Cupcakes. Although they're both mango flavor, different recipes were used. For the 8-inch cake, I added fresh grated mango and mango extract. Well, it's hard to tell the (mango) flavor by just eating the cake. = =" For the cupcakes, I added mango extract instead of vanilla extract. Ummm... I don't know how to describe the special taste. I dislike the taste.

In the afternoon, I went to P's house. Thank you for the yummy lunch. I like the Cambodian BBQ... A layer of sweet & Chili Sauce and coconut soda is added to a flat electric pan. When the mixture of sauce is boiled, we can add foods, such as seafood, meat, and vegetable, to the pan, just like how we eat hot pot... A poor description. Add your creation. Haha... In my view, it's a combination of Korean BBQ and Hot Pot.

下雨天

雖然不太喜歡下雨天, 但下雨總比下雪好.
每逢下大雨, 路面上到處都是積水.
當車經過積水時, 往往"淺"起水花.
下雨天駕車時, 當然會把所有車窗關上.
雖然明明知道水花不會弄濕自已,
但每次當水花打落玻璃窗時, 我不其然縮起身子來.
差不多每次都會中招.(?!)
每次中招後, 我都會嘲笑自己的愚蠢. 哈哈!!
下雨天都有它的好處, 可以開懷一笑 =)

Election Day

Today was the election day. For me, it was just a day gave me an extra holiday. I didn't pay much attention to this election because of two reasons, no right to vote and no interest. Haha. Don't ask me anything about the election. Probably you know more than me.

Daylight saving time

It was time to reset clocks today. Although I've lived in US for three years, I'm still not sure when to change the time. Haha. Because my laptop and cell phone reset the time automatically, time-reset doesn't trouble me much.

Banana Muffins (w/ recipe)

I baked Banana Muffin today. YUMMY!! It's my 2nd time to make it. The first time I added almond extract according to the recipe. The almond flavor is too strong, so banana flavor is covered. This time I didn't add almond extract. The muffins taste good. I love it.





















Recipe of Banana Muffins
(Copied from I'm Just Here For More Food. Alton Brown.)
(12 standard muffins)

The Wet Works 1
Overripe bananas - 340g (3-4 count)
Sugar - 210g

The Dry Goods
All-purpose flour - 220g
Oat flour - 35g
Baking soda - 1 teaspoon
Salt - 1 teaspoon

The Wet Works 2
Unsalted butter - 113g (1 stick) (melted and cooled)
Eggs - 100g (2 large)

Steps
1. Preheat the oven to 350F/175C
2. Prepare a standard 12-hole muffin tin.
3. Place the bananas and sugar in a large mixing bowl and mash them together with a potato masher until smooth (obviously this is impossible with all but the most overripe of bananas).
4. Combine the Wet Works 1 and then the Wet Works 2 in separate bowls, then combine together before adding the Web Works to the Dry Goods (mix just until batter comes together).
5. Pour the batter into the muffin tin and bake for 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the bottom of a muffin comes out more or less clean.
6. Remove the muffins immediately to a cooling rack.

Postal Service

Last week, I was angry with the postal service (USPS). The reason is pretty long. Please be patient.

Recently, I mailed an international package to Hong Kong. Each package has its own tracking number so that people can check the statue of the package online. When I tracked my package online, I found that the info of another package was shown. Then, I went to a post office to find out why. The officer said he couldn't help me and asked me to call the main office for help. I called the number, and the telephone system kept asking me the tracking number which is incorrect. As a result, I couldn't go through the system, so I went to the post office for help again. The same officer asked me to call another number. I did and talked with another man this time. The man said he couldn't help me and asked me to call the first number again. I told him that I'd a wrong tracking number so wasn't able to go through the telephone system. Then, he told me to hit zero continually no matter what the system said. Finally, I'm able to speak with the right person (a lady). She said that my package probably was on the way to HK. Wrong information was shown because it isn't a requirement to scan the tracking number when the post office delivers the package. That means the tracking number doesn't follow to the package. (Is it a joke? Why do you give me a tracking number at the beginning. I really want to ask her what the purpose of tracking number is) Anyway, she recorded the package's details for investigation. That means right now, I can't do anything but wait.

PS 1: Hope that the package arrives HK safely.

PS 2: I'll choose UPS next time. So far I haven't had any problem with UPS.

PS 3: I really hate telephone systems. I often spend lots of time on getting the right information or reaching the right person.

PS 4: I learn that if I've problems with the telephone system next time, I just hit whatever keys no matter what the system says. I believe it's the fastest way to speak with a person. (Good that I learn something in this issue =))
